BIGSEA Foundation's Empowerment Program uses sport, mentorship, life skills, wellbeing, education and leadership opportunities to help young people build confidence, resilience and a stronger sense of purpose.
WHY THIS EXISTS
Many young people face barriers that affect confidence, education, wellbeing, relationships and their ability to plan for the future. The Empowerment Program creates consistent spaces where young people can participate, learn, lead and develop practical skills.
Sport provides the entry point. Structured mentorship, life skills, wellbeing activities, education and leadership opportunities help turn participation into personal development.
"A young person may come to the program to play. They can leave with confidence, discipline, skills, relationships and a clearer sense of where they are going."
OUR MODEL
Sport gets young people through the door. The wider empowerment model provides the structure that helps them build skills, confidence, resilience and opportunity.
Structured football, basketball, volleyball and other sports activities are combined with teamwork, discipline, communication, goal setting, decision-making and leadership.
Coaches, mentors and trained young leaders provide positive examples, encouragement and guidance while helping participants identify their strengths and aspirations.
Young people need safe spaces where they can participate, express themselves, build supportive relationships and access appropriate wellbeing and psychosocial support when needed.
The program promotes meaningful participation for girls and boys and creates opportunities for young people from different backgrounds to learn and work together.
Young people are encouraged to connect participation with education, personal goals, vocational exposure, entrepreneurship and other pathways that can strengthen their future opportunities.
Participants are encouraged to take responsibility, lead activities, solve problems and contribute positively to their teams, schools and communities.
